Hey Ya'll...I went out again today in the frying pan type weather to satisfy my metal detecting addiction ;D Hunted for a couple of hours and found these two buckles, a musket ball, and a unknown button with a nipple on the front. I also included a really cool find from a couple of weeks ago, a checker or poker chip made from solid lead! I really think it is a COOL find and you should feel the weight of it...Isnt worth a whole lot monetarily probably, but it is just another one of those relics that you dont find often...the only regret is that I struck the front of it with the shovel while I was digging it up :-\ Oh well, still cool find I think. Now I can sympathize with others who have scratched their old coins while digging them up ;) ;D

By the Way, have any other relic hunters ;) out there found a button like the one below. Looks to be a vest button? It is heavy for its size, the loop is in perfect condition and looks to be made from either lead (which to me would be odd) or pewter.

I would need to see the back of the button, but over here they are 17th century. (1640-1680s) Is that possible in your area?

Those are great finds Sentie.
I'm looking forward to Crusader id'ing that button to the 17th C, from the photo of the back you are going to post ;D

The lead checker is definitely very cool. It would be interesting to know if anyone else has found something similar.

HH and remain Hydrated!
Cheers, Mike

Hello Crusader, yes it is very possible that that button is from the 17th century. Virginia, was founded in 1607 and the place where I found this button is down the road from one of the 1600s settlements. Here is a picture of the back of the button. Hope this helps!

Now that's an old button! :o Congrats on braving the heat and finding some awesome keepers!

Hey Ya'll, yes that is right Don..that was the first thing that I noticied was that it was very heavy for its size, like it was made out of lead. The shank is in perfect condition and it was way down there about 7-8" Very cool if it is 1600s, if so, it will be my first 17th century relic. I have mostly 19th century relics...Looks, if this is a nipple button, that I totally skipped the 1700s and colonial era and went straight to English Settlement era of the 1600s :) Thanks Don and Crusader and to you Nana!!

Yeap, looking at the back, I would definately say of 17th century construct.

Thanks Crusader, that's very interesting and exciting as we don't find many 17th century relics here!
