Well I was able to go back and finish the other 2/3 of the yard I found the ring & 43' Quarter in.
At first it seemed empty, but the closer I got to the house, the more that surfaced. Ended up with 8 wheats, 2 tokens, a cool old lock & a 1944 20 Centavos. Unfortunately I hit the 20 Centavos a little on the face side.
I made another stop at a small old homesite, and found 2 more wheats & another tax token. All in all a productive day and a lot of diggin! Thanks for looking and Happy Hunting!!!! IMG_5982.JPG IMG_5984.JPG IMG_5987.JPG IMG_5990.JPG

Never seen a lock with a loop on the shackle. Maybe a chain so you don't lose the lock. Oops! Didn't work. Gary

Thanks for searching it. It's an odd little token and the first of its kind for Me.

Digger RJ, that padlock may very well be from a railroad company, based on the loop attached. I would clean it well and look for marks! Sub 8-)

I think Subterranean is right.
Most of the railroad locks that I have seen had extra hardware connected to them. Initially the tethers were to insure the locks didn't get lost in operations at night by kerosene lamp. Think, if you will, how many locks must have been required for a fifty mile run through rail yards switching stations and other compounds where outsiders weren't allowed. The tethers were there to prevent theft, loss and pilferage. " Dang, I want one of them brass locks for my shed at home!"
