Fire danger here in New Mexico has just about shut me down. All nat'l forest, blm, and state land is closed because it is so hot and dry here. I have been going to the school, community center and such here in our small town getting to know my new detector. Have found several dollars in clad. No silver yet tho. Is anyone else struggling with extreme fire danger this summer?

Yes sir. That wallow fire is pretty close to me. And all the same is shut down and closed off. Pheonix nubs come up here and dont know how to put out camp fires when they are done. Hopefully we get some rain soon.

Yes, we desperately need rain. It has been almost a year since we have had a measurable rainfall :(

Tell me about it... I'm in Tucson. The smoke was very bad here today. I can't hit my favorite spots because the forests are closed. :(

I am not trying to stir up anything here but is it not illegal to hunt national forest and park lands . The reason I ask is I was going to do some traveling out west . With detector in tow. can someone shed the light on this . I use to live in the catalina's of Tucson . I am sorry how bad these fires have been for you all out there . Your monsoons don't roll in for a least another month and a half. Thanks in advance for the info. Rob

I think it differs from state to state, You and I are in NY, state parks and state forests are illegal for us to hunt here on the east coast because most of them date back pretty far and are now considered historical sites. National forests are ok whare im located. Out west thier settlements came much later so a state forest may not be a historical site.

Yeah i try and stay out of the national forest after a ranger gave me a $300 ticket for going through a mud puddle on a a main road. lol. he wasnt interested in me detecting at all just being a jerk off... I just stay out and dont bother with them. but i do like to go out and hike the trails every now and then. That fire is burning some beautiful country. what was crazy is that the smoke was affecting all the way up to south dakota. Monsoons will definately help.

im lucky and not more fire safeties around my area.
The schools will give you lots of practice and could
pay off with some silver and possibly gold. G/L

I know these areas are normally dry, but is this abnormal so early in the yr? here in MO we had 21" of rain in less than a wk, then a mth of dry 90 degree days so weeds shot up & dried out quickly. was worried 'bout fire, but last 2 days we had 3 more " of rain.
forest fires are scarey things. was in one outside Mammoth CA yrs ago, & it scared the puddin outta me.
I hope y'all stay safe.

Yeah thats what im kinda limited to out here. ::) But the schools here are pretty strict about going on to grounds unless you have business there. I recently found that detecting around the lakes when they go down is fun, so far just lures but im going to start repainting them and putting new hooks on so i can use them. At five or six bucks each its worth it. but still trying to justify a $1000 detector :laughing7: All of you out east should feel thankful. when i lived in KY it was so much different and so much more fun. The only lead i have found so far is a spot where apache scouts buried 40 saddles damaged in a stable fire. An old guy said he can point me to the spot but it is on the reservation. Hoping to get permission because the hardware on those saddles are still there and no telling what else.
