First box of Halves this week. Interesting finds.

Hey all,

So I picked up my halves I ordered last week today and started going through them. End roll searching found me a 40%. Sadly that was the only silver in the entire box. However, I did come across a proof. My first one.

Finds in this box:

1 - 1969D 40%
1 - 1971S Proof (Pic Below)

Also found were these which are bright, shiny, and don't look like they've seen much if any circulation. All details are very sharp too. Especially that first one. Debating whether to keep or throw back:

1 - 1996D
1 - 2005P
1 - 2007P

The 2005 and 2007 are halves that were not meant for circulation. They were only made for the mint sets for those years. It depends who you ask, but I personally keep all of the NIFC (Not Intended For Circulation) halves that I find. These usually have a really low mintage, and who knows, one day in the future these may become key dates

Congrats on the 40% ender. It always amazes me when the ender is the only silver in the box. It's happened to me a couple of times. Congratulations too on your S-mint proof. Keep looking for those S-mints, some are silver, but not those 71's.

As for the nicely struck clad, I find there are some years where the die strikes are just exceptionally fine. There are several years in the 90's where that was true. I have found a good number of '96s where this was the case, especially 96-P.

In the other two cases, you have coins from years where Kennedy Halves were "not issued for circulation," also known as NIFC's. You can keep or toss those back -- your preferences on what you CRH for should determine your actions. You will also find 87-P and 87-D are rarer than other years. That's because they were NIFC. You can see the rarity in the numbers minted on a site like "coinfacts."

Wont be worth anything while your alive you can buy a $100 bag of 2011 halves for $105 at the philly mint gift shop.
