Found at a house built in 1840. I dug this up and heard it rattling around. My imagination set in and I thought there must of been a couple quarters inside or maybe even a ring?? I tried to open it but dirt and corrosion said no. Brought it home. Couldn't get to it for a couple days and then finally it was time to open it. I took a dental pick and scored the seam where the 2 pieces close and then ran it under some water for a minute. It popped right open and then I saw what was inside. 2 stamps and 3 wheat pennies. The pennies are badly corroded but one of them is legible with a 1920 date. I think the other 2 are also from the early 20's. The stamps are George Washington 2 cents stamps. They were made 1922 - 1925!!!! So this make up compact was lost some time around then.

Man, that thing must have been sealed up really tightly to preserve stamps in the wet ground all those years! Who says you can't dig up stamps with a metal detector?

Very cool find. I have found several of those rouge tins, and each time I imagine that they have silver coins inside, but alas, so far only dirt and the remnants of old makeup. Now I will have to keep looking because YOU actually found something good in one of them. Congrats. GL&HH.

That's a very neat find. I love how the stamps and coins all are about the same date range.

the imagination runs wild, sometimes it is with awesome results, sometimes it is a total let down. this was one of the cool ones

If that doesn't get you excited, I don't know what will. Love to find something like that.

Nice, I don't know how many rouge tins I have dug and opened up and never found squat, glad to see something in one, congrats

Man that's awesome! A real step back in time. Congrats!!!

That's pretty cool stuff right there. Nice job

Great find, think I need to go back and check some of compacts. Lol. Congrats.

Cool find! Gz!

Man, that is a really cool find, must be someone's stamp and coin collection as the stamps are used.

Great find! The stamps are cool find.

probably some kid lost it since the stamps are cancelled. that's a super cool find. awesome that the stamps weren't rotted away

super cool and unique find. Congrats. We all hope to find something like that Could have been silver or even gold coins inside there.

A very unique find. Some kid probably shoved all that stuff in there a long time ago as part of his little collection of things, he was probably quite sad when it was lost. Or maybe the kid buried it pretending he was a little pirate.

It does not get anymore exciting then that! Congrats on the cache, I would be completely thrilled to find it. I bet you that some guy just got back from the post office with some new stamps to send a letter and a couple pennies in change.

Really cool to dig up old stamps like that. Makes me want to go through my collection of old make-up compacts and shake them. I probably have 12-15 of them.
