Got out yesterday with Magnum to hunt a couple old houses I've hunted before. The first one was a bust so moved on to the "Haunted" site I got the 1876 seated quarter from a couple weeks ago. Lots of iron here so used 2 tone on the E-Trac and turned up the sensitivity to the point of almost unstable. This popped out in a area we had both been over a couple times. I didn't realize what I had till I showed it to Josh who knew right away what it was. I also picked up a couple of tokens. The small copper one has a "eye" on one side with no cash value on it and a Bulls head on the other. The second one is aluminum and on one side has "Good for 100 in Trade" and the other side is so badly corroded that it can't be made out. The ring was gold plated and still has some on the inside of the ring. The small button came from a pair of overalls from the 40's from the research I did last night. Will be taking to owner of property this week to get an idea of how it could have gotten on this site in Cabarrus County.

That is an awesome first CW relic! Nice button!

Those are sweet!

heck of a find for you first CW artifact....don't ya know you are supposed to dig a thousand Minie balls before you find a CSA button? :laughing7: just kidding! great finds!

That is a great find John! I couldn't believe it when you showed it to me. That spot has produced some good finds.but didn't see that one coming! That button is in great shape & going to clean up great. What a stellar first Civil War find. Some people that have done this for years still haven't found one of these. I can't believe I missed it but really glad that you got your coil over it! It will be interesting to see if the man who built the house was a Confederate veteran. If you can tie that to a person it will make the find really special. Had a great time yesterday (even though all I found were 3 wheaties!)

Almost forgot - here's the pic I shot that shows some good detail

Thanks Guys. I went to the owners house today to show him my find but he was out. His wife told me that they have family documents from the purchase of the house. I have been very fortunate to meet some of the oldest living people in this area. 78 to 86 years young and still living on their own. I took a short break yesterday and walked across the street(long walk in the country) to introduce myself to the elderly gentleman sitting on his porch smoking a cigar. I knew he is a friend of the land owner and wanted to introduce myself as I only live a couple of miles
from them. Almost neighbors. He invited me to sit down and offered me a cigar which I accepted even though I quite smoking 30 years ago. I showed him the button find and before I could speak he spoke of the type of button it was and he wasn't surprised. He is one of 10 kids and was the baby of the family. He has one brother still kicking and they are the only ones left. His brother is 86 strong and only suffers from a heart murmur every once and awhile. Their family has been there from the early 1800's and the history just kept coming. What a honor to get to talk to these folks and they trust me to come on their land.

awesome relic!

What a great way to start your CW relic addiction. That button is fantastic! Sounds like you guys will be busy for some time.

Nice! One of those has been on my bucket list for a long time. Big congrats on a great piece of history.

Great find, John!!!

Well done! There are people who search for years and never find one. Very nice.

Congrats - there should be more there. If you are in a house site I would bet money on another one turning up.
