XP Deus II v0.6 with 11" Coil
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
Got my Xmas pressie early, why wait for Santa to bring it, he may damage it on the way down the chimney.

I love my Cortes & know it inside-out but its not belt mountable & is slowly crippling me with the amount I do. So I wanted a detector which I could Belt mount & I choose a French make called XP Goldmaxx Power (UK version), it new (ish) on the market & it has great reviews.

I tested on the Winter Bean Field on land I have covered with the Cortes. I set it up as follows:
Iron Threshold - 7
Ses. - 12 O'clock
Ground - 12 O'clock
Iron Vol 10 O'clock
Silencer 'I'

(any XP users wish to comment on the above?)

I like to hear everything that's going on under my coil & decide myself whether to dig. I'm not one for pumping up the Disc so I dug many nails & coke bits & pieces.

After 1 hour or so, I found I had missed very little, so tried where the Archies had recently filled in the trenches.

Got hammered number 40 - Finally beat last years total ;D

4 Roman coins - one large one, no idea how I missed this one!
late 18th century Pewter Military button

The most interesting thing happened today, I got a button which has been personalised. The amazing thing is that Wisbech is over 1 hours drive & the name Mappen I can't find when researching. More amazing this is my second personalised ever & its the same as one I found early in the year. Not only was it not in the same field as the other one but it was over 1 mile away! (see second picture of one I found before)

Overall a good day, for a first try of the new machine.

Overall a good day, for a first try of the new machine.
Hello Crusader , ive got the old Gold Max so the controls are a bit different. I tend to have the sensitivity around 12 and the ground balance just where the red starts. A mate of mine though has the same as you an swears by having the sensitivity at max (says this nearly doubles the depth).
Yes but this can be a two edge sword making it unstable to use
Thanks guys. I think I will try half way between 12 & max
Might be a mistake I don't know anyone who uses that much :-\
Now you do, me! And with great success....

I have been waiting for this......weldone on finding a hammered with the new machine, but you probably would have found it with any detector, you will not benefit from the XP until you are on an Iron (apart from the weight difference) infested sight then the the XP comes into it's own, I'm not convinced about all these depth theories that by doing this or doing that you will get more depth.Depth for me depends on whats under the coil IE size of target conductivity etc unless you hunt on grass(which I know you do) depth doesn't come in to it, sorry to babble on weldone on your first hunt
Thanks, I did know this & its mainly the weight issue which I'm trying to solve. Most of my sites are not that iron infested. I hate learning a new machine, when I know my Cortes so well, but I need to think of my health. Hopefully it will improve my hammered rate :icon_scratch: I was always pretty good at getting Qrters etc.,, I just hoped this may get hammered slightly deeper when I understand it. Main thing is I'm pretty pleased & my only complaint is the speaker is not that loud. I still managed without headphones today, but on a windy day I may need them (oh, I was wrong, they came with normal not wireless type)
Yes Cru, its easy to search without headphones, no extra wire to think about and get in the way. If you want to keep at it.

Remember when I searched with you, you tell me, why did I find more? I know the answer. Do you? I will send a PM.

I know the XP will increase ALL of your finds, not only the hammered, and that on any field, believe me I know.

But wearing headphones will increase the amounts even more, then and only then can you hear the faint sounds. Dig them. BUT you will not hear them with the speaker in your detector but only with GOOD headphones, and they are expensive. After a few years you might even find more than I do on the same field, who knows (but you will need MUCH MUCH luck to do that Cru)... ::) ::) ::)

The wireless headphones cost here about 200 euros, so that is another expensive investment. I have tested several of them, but took them all back. They performed much worse than my good headphones (which cost about 70-100 euros). I believe that the frequency response and spectrum is not as high.

Compare headphones to loudspeakers at home. What do you hear when you listen to say Whitney Houston singing one of her nice clear songs on a set of Aldi speaker sets. Compare it to a Bose set? No difference, OK, then just use the cheap headphones Cru....

But the difference is black to white. But a problem is that the price you pay for a good set of headphones does NOT guarantee a good hear, it only guarantees that you have paid so much for them. I have tested a number of pricey headphones and came up with only one good one (for me in anycase), but I can't find them nowadays anymore to buy a spare. Other models, but do they work as good...? There are countless other examples of price and quality in this world.

The newest wireless headphones from XP, the WS3, are supposed to be better, but still have to test them. I would buy them in a minute if I heard everything that I hear with my good headphones or better.

And I never search with cheap headphones, like the ones you get free with a detector. Still have about 15-20 of them sleeping peacefully in a box in my garage, received with all the detectors I have had over the years.

all of that without knowing the machine well!!!
Congratulations.

I would to ....I wish more people would show pictures of were they hunt
Yes that would be great!

bet your excited!

have you taped your new coil up yet :D
No need to do that with a XP coil Shaun, just put on a protective cover on it. Don't search without those, eventually the coil will become damaged and that costs 200 euros instead of 15 for a new cover. Weight, a few grams... So no need to tape. One thing I really like about the XP compared to the Lobo is the cable to the coil, its very good sturdy cable that won't break easily.

I was wondering why you guys did that, tape the coils. Forgot back then to ask... To busy searching I guess.

You are intitel ed to your opinion Woody.

I have heard the wireless headphones work very well with the XPs built in wireless headphone system. Is that Bluetooth technology? And some good wireless headphones were around 130 Euros. Expensive but if it works well??? I quit using headphones because of the cord but I miss them in cold weather detecting, they kept my ears warm, LOL. I also have Tennis elbow in my right swinging arm now but my Minelab XT70 is light enough that I can still detect without a support. Had the elbow problem last year in my left elbow and it took almost a year to heal. HH, Mike

I will have to use the cheap set for now, as the speaker is not half as loud as the Cortes. I too hate the cord & the expensive of replacing them all the time. But as this is belt mounted the cord runs down my back to the belt & stays out the way. Need to train my muscle memory not to stand the machine on my spade & walk around, & other small changes. But if it limits the pain to my arms/chest & back then its all worth while. If I get a win fall I will go with the £130 wireless type headphones.

PS. you can put your hood up to keep your ears warm :D

The XP has it's own built in chip for the wireless headphones, as far as I am aware they are the only ones you can use(wireless)with this machine.

I was just wondering how you hear those very faint signals when not using headphones :icon_scratch:

On my Cortes, its not a problem. I hear faint signals as my hearing is fine & the vol is good.

I only trialed it yesterday with no headphones & I did OK. I may have missed a few faint signals as the speaker vol is rubbish on this machine.

You convinced me enough yesterday to use the cheap headphones on my second outing today. Although Woody tells me this are a waste of time :-\ So one day when I'm feeling saucy I will get those goldplated wireless set.

Why is it a waste of time :icon_scratch: plenty of my freinds use the back phones provided with the XP with great success ???
