from what I understand, if you get shorted from bags off the coin machine, you don't get refunded.

The risk is big, but the reward could be bigger.

Go for it.

I have never done any dime bags.
But I love half dollar bags...always a treat!
I would jump on it.

You definitely want to give it a shot ! I have only done one "dime bag" so far , and if my
memory serves me correctly , I scored about six silvers - (just rosies ) I think that puts it
a little below my box averages . Oh yeah- most dime bags are $1000.00 . I think the
chances of scoring nicely , is better with bags ! Just a hunch - good luck ! Argentium.

Never tried bags (no coin counters in my area), but I think bags produce more, than coin rolls for a couple of reasons:
1)Large collections and coin jar hoards are usually cashed through coin counter rather than CWR (time consuming).
2)CWR or clear rolls are subject to cherry picking.
3)When rolling the paper roll, only the correct size and denomination fits there. In a bag there can be foreign silver coins or coins of various sizes or even tokens and jewelry items ::) Those various shapes are being considered by counter as a particular denomination. (Good when halves are counted as presidential dollars :) ,bad when dimes are considered as pennies :(

Good luck with bags, hope they produce a lot.

P.S forgot to say, always check the reject tray, if applicable

I'm skeptical. I tried a bag of halves ($1000) and found one 40%. I've considered the dimes but was told by the tellers that the machine rejects the silvers. Seems logical that you have a better chance with people dumping their coin jars in the machine but not sure it's worth the chance. I'm sure all machines are different though.

The machines in the banks here do not reject silver. One bank I use as a dump, I bought a bag from them and got 3 silver.

Another bank I use, they roll their own dimes/quarters/nickels from what other turn into their coin counter. I have found silver dimes in their rolls so I know they dont reject it.

I've done a lot of dime bags in my day. I try to have a friend or two around...a whole one is just too much for me. I usually down an entire box of Oreos afterwards...

Hopefully you wash your hands first :D

Do you look at all the dates, front and back or just edge search? I just search the edges unless its a weekend and I know I have nothing else to do.

I used to just edge search but I almost missed a Barber that way. Now if time permits, I try to look at all dates. Not worth much, but lately I did find a proof by checking the dates.

Thanks for the replies,

I edge search only, not enough time to look at each one.
I'll post the results hopefully with pictures, did I just jinx
myself?

Dok,
Not sure some of them got your joke there. It is good to have friends around when you do a whole dime bag though. If you do the whole thing yourself it might be nap time afterward, too.
