At last I pull something out of the dirt that is not iron!! Although I am not unhappy to find iron, but this is great..8-) According to a map of 1878, the homestead belonged to a John Murray, and was beside a creek. The ground is hard, as there has not been much rain all summer and has been very hot. The metal detector was going off in quite a few areas and I will be going back there for sure! Just down the road from my house. The depression in the ground was where the home was, and they had a good water source from the beautiful creek that is there. Photo of my truck on the road, I didn't have to walk far into the woods at all. Also dug up sandstone foundation stones, and nails.

Nice find.Congrats

Nice old buckle find. Congrats

Very good, Ann! TTC

That is very helpful, thank you!

Thanks! :)

It is, and thanks!

Thank you kindly!

I don't think shoe buckle, maybe sash.... I found one just like it. Thin and plated brass, unlike an early shoe buckle.

Really nice buckle!

Congrats on the buckle! :icon_thumleft:

I gotta agree with Iron, not a shoe buckle. Folks like to find buckles so enjoy it no matter what type of buckle it is.

Not too shabby! 🙌

It may or may not be a shoe buckle, I'm such a newbie at this but thank you everyone for your comments and helpful hints. It has turned green on the back in some areas, would type of metal would that be? Copper or brass?

You did great, newbie or not. Very nice save!!! "D"

Very nice 1800s find! Lots of brush there, but if you have time & use a little sweat equity you can clear some nice larger spots to clean.

Anything with a bit of copper in it goes green, which includes lots of copper-alloys.

To me it looks like a late 19th to early 20th C sash buckle.
