I searched my in-laws' farm for the first time today. It has been in the family since 1828, and is about 50 acres. Judging by the amount of hits I got in less than an hour, I'll be searching there for YEARS! I started across the yard, and had so many strikes I didn't get to search much of the area I was heading for- there was a schoolhouse in the upper yard in the mid-1800s. The square , flat area is still visible in the field. It got too dark too soon, so I quickly scanned about 1/10 of the school area. I asked mom-in-law if there were any family stories about an exploding pot-bellied stove, because I found pieces of it all OVER the yard. She said that when they tore down the school building, they just dragged it away. The stove was still inside, and was crushed and scattered. Everything I found (Except the sheep fence wire- this was a sheep farm until 1974) was down about 7-8", the depth of my minispade blade, and mixed with some coal.
