Congrats on the large cent. If you take a few photos of it (close ones) in some different lighting, someone might be able to see some detail. Don't give up on a date yet. I cant really tell from the picture what variety it is. If you know what variety it is the date range can be narrowed down.

I would say it was about 5-6" down. I was actually using a minelab that belongs to 93vector.

I am a tenderfoot and have found 2 large cents, but that was after grueling episodes through the wind, rain and blizzard. Cheers to you for finding a quality coin like a large cent on your first try. Merc, Wheaties, slqs etc... I would take a large cent anyday before the rest.
