First hunt at 1890's House - A Three Silver Day!!!

Well Folks, I gained permission to an 1890's house that sits on about 3 acres. It is a very cool property that has been restored, even the servants shack. The owner was an elderly lady and very friendly. She gave me a tour of the house, the servants shack, and the other outbuildings. She told me about an old car buried out amongst the bamboo jungle, and about one of the servant ladies that actually died in the old outhouse. She said I am welcome any time, and she even gave me some old NC license plates. I gave her one of my handmade birdhouses and put it up for her.
I hit it for the first time yesterday for about three hours. My second signal was a wheat penny (good sign), and my third signal was a Barber dime! I was all pumped up as I had only been there 5 minutes.
I pretty much just wandered the property trying to get a feel for the place.
My finds for the day were:
*1899 Barber dime
*1942 Merc dime

*Sterling silver knife (?) engraved with a date of "1907" and also the initials "TT" or "FF"? The makers mark says "James Allan & Co." which I believe to be from the 1880's from what I could find.
Any input on the initials or age would be greatly appreciated.
*Seven wheat pennies : 1919, 25, 39, 40, 41, 42, 46.
*Broken brooch, a pin. old compact, lead seal, two unknown bullets (white patina), brass oval whats-it.

Not a bad start. The Barber made my day, but the sterling silver knife trumped it.
Anybody want to dig out the outhouse? :icon_scratch:
Thanks for looking,
MM

Wow. Very cool property and awesome opportunity for you! Love the finds and the car in the bamboo!

That is very cool! Great opportunity! Congrats!

Great hunt!

Sweet! And I LOVE the sterling knife with the date and initials!!

I have MISSED your posts!

Looks promising! I would check that car. Prob find a few coins in the seats. Good luck on your return hunts. I'm sure there's more silver waiting to be found.

Don't forget to also check the gas tank. Back in the day it was a great place to hide gold and silver coins.

That's a good angle, MM. Give the lady a fab birdhouse and get permission in an instant! :laughing7: She sounds like a sweetie though. Apparently that place hasn't been hunted what with all those super keepers! That butter knife is awesome! I bet you'll find that quarter there. ;) WTG on a GREAT hunt!! You did good!

Great hunt!

Thanks Big Guy. When you and Dave get done cleaning out those cut corn stalks, do you mind taking a whack at this bamboo. All the cane poles you could ever want. :laughing7:

Thank Buckaroo! When I dug that Barber dime within 5 minutes you know what was running through my mind don't you? Barber quarter of course! :laughing7: I know there has to be at least one out there. I'm not giving up.
Good luck this week,
Dugaroo

You and I think alike. Unfortunately, I can't even get the doors, hood, or trunk open unless I bring in a chainsaw to cut down some of that bamboo. It is buried big time! I tell ya, it's a bit creepy too. When you get into that bamboo jungle it gets dark, and the windows on the car are so fogged and dirty I can't see inside of it. CREEPY!!!!
Thanks for looking,
Doug

Check with the DMV to see if the match pair of 1950 plates are clear (noone is using the number) If they are clear the pair is worth $250.00 minimum
THe rest are worth 20 to 75 dollars each as singles.

Great Score!! The clear pairs are in demand for registering to classic cars and are in Demand!

Nanners,
You would LOVE this lady and the property. I wish you could see it. They preserved it as original with the pictures, furniture, etc. from generations of the family. She even had the old wiring that used to be visible outside of the walls, left as is. The servant shack was incredible. She even had original photos of them inside. Way cool place.

I know there has to be a Barber quarter out there for me somewhere. :laughing7:

Oh and please please send us pics of the car. You never know what it is. Something rare is worth cutting down the whole bamboo jungle for it

Thanks for the info. I am trying to buy more from her. This will blow your mind...... the ones she gave me were from 1950 and newer. She has original matching pairs still in the original wrappers going back into the 1920's!!!! There are about 20 pre-1950's plates. Most have never been used. I was dying when I saw them.

I think its a 1940's Chevy "special deluxe" if I remember right. There is supposed to be an old International pickup truck out there too.

Those are some great pics and some really good finds. I'd be psyched up to get back there for another hunt. That old millstone is awesome!

Sniff sniff I smell another bird house

THose could be worth a ton new in package. Keep in mind that if the same number is on all of the plate years, only one set can be registered. I found a cache of nos plates from many years. I thought I had a fortune but they were all the same number for the same car Only one set was gold the rest were souvineers

Sounds like a dream spot! Congrats on the silver, and for making a new friend. Maybe she has friends down the road she can recommend you to.

nice finds, gz! specilaly love the knife!
