First hunt at 1890's House - A Three Silver Day!!!

Well Folks, I gained permission to an 1890's house that sits on about 3 acres. It is a very cool property that has been restored, even the servants shack. The owner was an elderly lady and very friendly. She gave me a tour of the house, the servants shack, and the other outbuildings. She told me about an old car buried out amongst the bamboo jungle, and about one of the servant ladies that actually died in the old outhouse. She said I am welcome any time, and she even gave me some old NC license plates. I gave her one of my handmade birdhouses and put it up for her.
I hit it for the first time yesterday for about three hours. My second signal was a wheat penny (good sign), and my third signal was a Barber dime! I was all pumped up as I had only been there 5 minutes.
I pretty much just wandered the property trying to get a feel for the place.
My finds for the day were:
*1899 Barber dime
*1942 Merc dime

*Sterling silver knife (?) engraved with a date of "1907" and also the initials "TT" or "FF"? The makers mark says "James Allan & Co." which I believe to be from the 1880's from what I could find.
Any input on the initials or age would be greatly appreciated.
*Seven wheat pennies : 1919, 25, 39, 40, 41, 42, 46.
*Broken brooch, a pin. old compact, lead seal, two unknown bullets (white patina), brass oval whats-it.

Not a bad start. The Barber made my day, but the sterling silver knife trumped it.
Anybody want to dig out the outhouse? :icon_scratch:
Thanks for looking,
MM

Hey D,
WOW! What a haul of silver!!! If the Diggers TV guys had been with you, they would have climbed all the trees in the yard!
You had asked me about the knife, so here ya go: Your Sterling Silver butter knife was made by James Allan & Company, which was located on 285 King Street in Charleston, SC., established circa 1885 and continued to circa 1943. Other than Sterling, his company also did silver plate and some aluminum.

Since Sterling Silver flatware was often given as a wedding gift, I'm assuming the date of 1907 is their wedding date, and the monogram is the name of the couple/family.

Way to go on a GREAT hunt!

Breezie

His photo (as President of the St. Andrews Society of Charleston) is found on page 103. http://standrewssocietyofcharlestonsc.org/St%20Andrews%20Society%20History-1729.pdf

Thanks so much Breezie. I knew I could count on you to ID this knife. I love finding personal items like that. I hope I can find some more, as I want to make her a shadowbox of relics to hang on the wall. The car in the bamboo may be a bit too big. :laughing7:
Have a great weekend young lady,
Doug

That knife is killer man:headbang:With a date to boot!

Good to see you get out there..
