First hunt of 08

First hunt of '08

Finally got out today for about 30 minutes. Wanted to check out a site I'd researched at the library when the snow was still flying.

Found.
A suspender buckle. Thanks to Don for the ID yesterday.
1916s wheat
A old wedding ring. says Gold Filled inside.

Looks like it might end up being a good spot.

Sorry about the pics, my cam is about done for.

Neat. You're ahead of me. Still cold & froze. I'm thinking I may go out Friday anyway. Chip out the shallow stuff, anyhow.

Thanks guys, felt good.

Ian, empty your PM box, can't send a PM. Come down Sunday if you want; sunny and 40's.

Your buckle is actually a buckle shield. It went over the buckle. Here is a photo of the one I found. Congrats.

Good finds! What does "gold filled" mean?

You got me. But it's one of those old rings that folks use to buy because that's all they could afford. Looks plated to me, but it's stamped gold filled.

Elvis, thanks for the ID. http://cgi.ebay.com/PAIR-OF-BRASS-A...E-SHIELDS_W0QQitemZ130204534321QQcmdZViewItem

Might be many more of these to be found since the farm fiield was once a harness racing track.

Good deal Ken. Even though there is snow here too I will have to get out Saturday for an hour just to dig something.

Nice finds Kas,

I've found a couple of those gold filled rings also.

It seems like mine had some green corrosion on them when I found em.
