nice. did you find it metal detecting? i found one a couple of weeks ago metal detecting. the date on mine looks like 1870. i am soaking it in olive oil and hoping for good results.
Actually, the soil I found it in was fairly dry. I was about 4 inches down and it really surprised me when it cleaned up so well. Just a tooth brush and water.

i have never done it with peroxide. can you explain the process? thanks

this picture doesnt do it justice, ive since cleaned it one more time and its nearly perfect. nice green patina and all the letters and numbers are very clearthanks for the good info, your results look excellent. one more question.do you rinse it off with water between scrubbngs?get peroxide warmed up, dip qtips in it and rub it all over the coin vigorously, dont soak it in peroxide, i hear it discolors the coin, u may do that several times before anything noticable happens. I suggest practicing on a less valuable coin first. heres my before and after results on my cruddy 1870 IHView attachment 660761View attachment 660762 this picture doesnt do it justice, ive since cleaned it one more time and its nearly perfect. nice green patina and all the letters and numbers are very clear
