After finding this site and reading all the wonderful stories I just had to go dig out my old detector and see if it still worked. It does and it did.
I noticed that a logging company had cleared an old house place just up the road so away I went.
Now understand this in an old machine and it gives a signal ever time it hits metal so I was busy from the get go.
Mostly lead jar lids, metal auto and tractor parts, a few metal trinkets and this one silver what ever it is, that looks like it has gone through a fire and reshaped itself. Any ideas as to what it might have been.
Just as I was digging this thing out someone from the logging co. came along and started to split some fire wood so I politely left to return another day.
Thanks for spikeing my interest again in this hobby and I'll be back.

Hey, many people here say "Dig it all" so no problem keeping busy with all the signals. If you ignore iron you could miss a great artifact. Have fun

That's a neat find there. It looks like a center piece to a old cap and ball pistol.....but I'm not sure.

I don't know if its just the picture or sun shining, but I certainly love the color tone of that find.

Thats really cool.

Thats the way it looks after an acid bath and some good old brillo scrubing.
It appears to be 8 oz. of pure silver. At the very least it is nickle.

I went back this afternoon but had no luck. Hunting in the country is not like hunting populated areas.
