Hello folks! This is my first post on Treasurenet! I've been detecting for a year or so now, and decided this year to really step up my game as it is one of my favorite hobbies. We've had a few days of nice weather here in PA, so I figured I'd head on out to some close neighborhood spots to start off 2012. Both spots were early 1900's houses I've received permission to detect. The first spot offered up my oldest coin so far, an 1887 (well worn, but still cool!) V-Nickel! I was very excited, and ended up pulling out a few wheat pennies before moving on. At the next spot I found something else worth noting... I thought it was possibly a large cent or something at first, but after cleaning it it turned out to be an Italian coin, specifically a Vittorio Emanuele II from the 1860's I believe. Its very worn on the front but the back clearly shows the head and a goatee! The family that used to live there were there for multiple generations, and came directly from Italy, so the coin makes a connection to the family and their history which is a little something extra. It was a good day for me, still waiting for my first silver though!

HH everyone! ;D

Welcom to TNet.....and a very addicting hobby......HH

History Buff, nice coin, I'm new to TreasureNet also, but not to Relic Hunting, I've been relic hunting since George Washington was knee high to a Coon dog, at least that's how long it feels......look forward to more of your posts

HI HistoryBuff PA; Welcome to a great Forum; Congrats on a nice find there. Suggestion : You might want to consider returning that coin to that Family if possible due to it's DIRECT connection to their own personal history. I'm sure the coin is of minimal value but the value of the joy you would bring to that Family and your own joy of seeing their own happiness will far out weigh any monetary value you may obtain from the coin. Besides doing so is something you will value far after the coin is long gone. Just let us know ok so we can enjoy your story as well ok. Best Wishes. PEACE:RONB :icon_thumright:
