Fish for dinner tonight

Went fishing for about an hour tonight, Let 4 others go back swimming but this one is going on the grill

I couldn't find a yard stick so I used a flyswatter and a 12 inch ruler for a little size comparison. Oh yeah, the cat had to get in on it too, lol.

Now that is a very nice bass! What VDI did the bass ring in at and at what depth was it showing? :icon_jokercolor:

Well I use an ACE250 so VDI is kinda greek to me but as far as depth, when it first rang in it was right near the surface but then it seemed to keep trying to get deeper and deeper on me. I finally coaxed it to the surface though and then put it in the pouch right quick like. As far as value goes I'm not sure but it was delicious. The nice thing was it was really easy to clean and I wasn't too worried about messing it up. Finished it off with a little lemon juice and didn't ruin the patina on it a bit. :thumbsup:

Nice largemouth. All we have here is trout. We'll be in Oklahoma next week and maybe we'll hook up some blue cats and flat heads. What did you catch him on?

Gold and black topwater 3 inch Rapala. There are very few things that can match the excitement when you are slow fishing a topwater lure and the water just explodes when one of these guys hits it. :smileinbox:

I forgot to say that it was really close to the bank in shallow water too, (only about 2 feet out) BIG SPLASH when this one hit :thumbsup:

I got to go trout fishing out in Colorado once, I was working up in Winter Park during mud season and the motel was empty except for me. The guy that ran the place took me out behind the motel and showed me where this little stream was that had a beaver dam on it. Didn't catch anything big but I had a blast out there every night. It's hard to beat fresh trout cooked on a open fire, I really miss that job, LOL

Rapala and topwater fishing is my favorite! When the sandbass were running I would always limit out real quick on that 3 inch floating Rapala. It's just really cool to see them come up and hit that!

I've seen fish like that at my sailboat in FL. With that spot on the tail. May I assume you caught those on the ocean or tributary of? What kind are they? TTC

I didn't weigh it but I am guessing it was real close to 6 lbs. I usually release all the bass I catch, especially prespawn, but the reservoir where I caught this one is getting kind of over populated. This fish, some corn on the cob and big batch of potato salad fed 4 of us to the point of having to unbutton my pants

Thanks Sandcreek, it's a large mouth but for some reason in this particular reservoir their mouths aren't as big as the ones in the lakes and farm ponds around here. I am not sure why but I've been catching and eating them outta there for 30 years and they taste just fine. I don't know if they are some type of hybrid or not. We don't have any smallies up here, too bad 'cause they are great fighting fish.

i caught these in copano bay down here in rockport texas they are red drum
