Fisher Gold Bug 2

Hey guys, my new avatar inspired me to do a quick write up.
My first nugget detector was a Minelab Eureka Gold. It worked fairly well and was pretty sensitive but I wasn't happy with the iron id mode and the fact that it couldn't detect some smaller pickers.
Colorado tends to be small gold country, so I sold the Eureka and got a gold bug 2. The gold bug is small, light and easy enough to learn for a manual ground balance machine.
Once I learned to dial in the ground balance, the gb2 was picking up tiny bird shot and micro shards of foil and wire left and right....but the gold was eluding me. I decided to go to a spot that had given up dozens of little pickers in the past high banking. Finally after about 20hs on the gold bug I landed 2 nice little chunkies right around one grain each! I'm no where near a pro detectorist but now having newly proven confidence in the gb2 capabities more nuggets are bound to come my way!
Passion, persistence and optimism are key to finding that yella gold!

You've sure got the right idea, and that Bug2--I know a guy that finds pounds of nuggets most years and he just loves that Bug2--don't be askin' for his address, or his spots that he works--just know that he loves that machine and swears by it!!

My Bug2 is without question, the most sensitive machine I've owned. That is not to say their are none better, just not in my arsenal. I've found pieces of stranded copper wire so small I had trouble seeing it when I knew it was in my hand! I have yet to find my first nugget, though. Just a matter of time..... TTC

I'm right there with you Terry about not finding any gold yet. I've had my GB2 for a few years and have found everything else. I'm starting to regret all the shotgun shells I've shot in the past. Sure a lot of pellets when you dig them up one at a time. I'm set on breaking the ice next spring or summer. Doug.

That's good, Doug! ha ha. If you did the shooting, you can't complain about the pellets. Seriously, though, if you are finding the tiny pellets, you're doing it right. Soon it will be a nugget instead! TTC

Most of my problem is I haven't been in the right areas enough with the detector. I'm getting older and less in shape than I used to be so my interest in detecting has been growing. I'm planning on getting in some better areas for detecting next spring or summer. I'm not stressed about finding gold as I'm confident in the detector. I just have to put it over gold. Doug.

Got my GB2 late last year. Found silver half dollar on my second set of batteries (+50 hours) and my first gold.

Two more nuggets from the same location. First gold was on a road site shoulder about 60" off the asphalt.

What they say about putting your coil over an area where gold was found before is true.

Ok, I'm using a Minelab Explorer S detector now for coins and such. I'm looking at something for gold. Lets open a can of worms here and ask, which is better ... the 17.8KHz Lobo, 71KHz GB2, or a 14KHz MXT. I can't decide which way to go. I've always heard the higher frequencies are better for finding the smaller gold. I do like the lifetime warranty of tesoro a lot.
