This is an older discontinued Pulse Induction from Tesoro. They worked well and had good battery life. The newer Sand Shark is improved and has some discrimination you can really use.
If the Impulse is cheap enough you can always send it in to Tesoro for a repair if it's needed.

Sandman, I think you misunderstood what he has. He was asking about the Fisher Impulse. I used to belong to a MD club here, and we wondered how all the beach machines did, so we all brought in our machines. The Fisher Impulse-made by Fisher not Tesoro- was pretty much as good as most any PI back then 10-12 years ago I think. But it would find in an air test a very,very thin gold chain, where none at that time PI could. Now some of the better ones, jewelry finders not shipwreck PIs, will. Back then it was a very sensitive PI, most werent that sensitive then. It is the only MD that Fisher makes that works well in salt water-the CZ20 works, but it is not a PI. The 1280 barely works in saltwater to the point of not finding stuff, unless it is big.

Fisher mad a model called the Impluse. I dont think JW Fisher made one.

I've used a Fisher Impulse since 1994. It served me well, both underwater and on the beaches. This year, however it has been banged around enough that I'm sending it back for a checkup. But, after all, it is 14 years old and has gotten some rough treatment. I bought a Tesoro Tiger Shark on Sandman's recommendation to supplement the Impulse, however, I have only had time to bench test it so far... Good luck with your Impulse, if it works as it was designed to do, you should be very happy with it. The Tesoro wasn't bought to replace it, just supplement it. When I get the Impulse back I'll compare the two.
