FISHING & DETECTING..........INFO ADDED, NEED HELP?

Not really a 'Todays find' but there isn't a catergory called 'stupid questions'!

Why is it that so many of us detect & fish?

I wonder how many of you out there are Sagittarius?

Just interested.

Re: FISHING & DETECTING.................

Fishing, hunting, bottle digging, dump sifting, coinshooting, relic hunting, artifact seeking, gold panning...it's all good and it's all about the HUNT. The hunt is the thing.

On the cusp with Taurus and Aries.

Re: FISHING & DETECTING.................

I miss fishing, because in the early days I run out of land to detect, so I could do both. But I have so much land now, I can nearly do it all year round, so fishing suffers. But I cuddle up to my treasure (and sometimes my better half) & all is well that ends well.

You get out what you put in 8)

Libra,
love to fish and detect, and that's about it, short of writing. Even managed to combine two of them for a couple years. Worked as a sports columnist for a local paper doing a weekly column entitled, "The Fishin' Hole."

Re: FISHING & DETECTING.................

My kinda post. I love fishing, been fishing since I was a kid and never stopped. I put alot of hours into fishing this past season and came through with some nice Largemouths straight out of New York City lakes. (LM Bass is all I'm after). Few people would believe that there is good LM Bass fishing right here in the Bronx or Manhattan. Don't know how this MD'ing is going to affect fishing next year though. Jan. Aquarius. Here's a pic of one of my better fish this season............

Re: FISHING & DETECTING.................

HAHAHAHA, it just occurred to me that fishing and metal detecting should not be compatible. With most fishing today it's catch-and-release. I sure wouldn't want to catch-and-release my treasures.

Re: FISHING & DETECTING.................

I have fished all my life...then began fly fishing about six years ago....absolutely love it....I carry rod and detector in my jeep from thaw to freeze....My girls are avid fisherwomen and Cheyenne will fish all night if I let her.....

Re: FISHING & DETECTING.................

I had to give up fishing in order to buy into my deer hunting lease. Sold my bass boat and trailer but I still have my rod and reels and lures. They're sitting in the garage gathering dust. Several Ambassadors and some ultra lite rigs. I was just getting into ultra lite when I sold my boat. Since I broke my back I haven't been able to get around well on the hunting lease so I don't go as much as I did, so I bought a 4-wheeler. Then along came metal detecting and my hunting is now suffering. I sold some of my rifle collection to buy treasure hunting gear. Now I hunt just the deer seson or part of it a little bit, I fish when someone takes me and I metal detect as often as I can, usually 3 or 4 days a week in good weather. I am being more drawn into metal detecting than anything else and plan to do some traveling next spring and summer in pursuit of this hobby. Now if my health will only hold out a few more years. Sound familiar to any of you older MDers? Oh and I also like to write but have really slacked off since I started MDing. So, instead of slacking off for the winter I am just digging in and getting ready for fair weather to go forward and seek my fortune. Monty

Re: FISHING & DETECTING.................

Taurus who loves kayaking and fishing. Now if I could only water proof the detector I'd be all set. Of course I'd need to get a bigger kayak to fit the detector, a new scoop, a new sifter, a new pocket vest to fit over the life jacket, a new roof rack and a bigger car to haul all the gear.... Man I'd need to find some mega treasure or a sugar daddy! LOL

Re: FISHING & DETECTING.................

lol...scraper

I was just sitting here trying to figure out what new better detector I was going to get pretty soon.

Nearly most of my life I've sat in the winter months thinking about what new fishing gear I was going to get in the spring....

I love fishing and have 2 kayaks too, I live on a lake in fact. But, fishing will probably have to move over now.

Another Libra here :)

Re: FISHING & DETECTING.................

Alchemy... two words... ice fishing! LOL
I also live on the water. I thought the locals were insane sitting on ice, for hours at a time, waiting for fish to bite. (I think for most it's just an excuse to get away from the wife and drink some beer.) But the fishing is actually kind of fun as long as you befriend someone with an ice shack. ;)
If you're ever up north, let me know. I'm always looking for a kayaking / detecting buddy. ;D
Take care! Daisy

Re: FISHING & DETECTING.................

I was born Jan 21, half sag, half aquarius. I have fished OBSESSIVELY for over 25 years, two years ago, I finally got my 6lb smallmouth to show for it. I actually have an itinerary for the coming year to accommodate both of my hobbies(my wife insists I call them obsessions, it's supposed to be the first step in my "recovery"). Wake up at 4am, hit the water, fish 'til 8:30-9:00, load up and MD until 1-2 O'clock or so, be in bed by 8:00, and then do it all again, I am already having hot flashes imagining this schedule, maybe my wife is right, maybe I really am sick..............oh well....

Re: FISHING & DETECTING.................

Obsession is the right word. Without it, I would be sh*t. It drove me to camp at night for fish in thunder storms, & now it drives me every week to search for my pot of Celtic Staters. I was always a specimen fishermen & I still am when I get out but as I have said before:
You have to catch alot of small ones to get the biggies - That means TIME.
TIME to me, is clearing out 4000 acres of land of all its metal. This is enough for me & an army for the rest of my life.
Work gets in the way but if I had to move becuase of it, then its time for a new job.
Another thing I say quite abit is: "If it took me more than 15 minutes to get to work, then I wouldn't bother"
TIME IS SHORT USE IT WISELY.
