Flare brass?? Really big bullet?? Heeeeelp!

Found this last week at a ghost town sight. Its pretty big. Head stamp markings are: PD.Ps 369 1.18 37-85 After the 1.18 there is an ordnance symbol. I take the 1.18 to be the date.

That does look very similar to some early artillery shells. I think the U.S. army used hotchkiss guns didn't they?

The Hotchkiss gun was used a lot by the soldiers on the early western frontier. Was the gun that caused soo many casualties at Wounded Knee, both Indian and Soldiers. One of the early friendly fire incidents. Monty
