I found this while searching the OU Archeology(Oklahoma University) website. Its a "Flash Movie" that tells about how Florence-A Chert was formed and used by Native Americans. I have found some points made of this stuff and there are some in my grandpa's collection as well. Just thought you all would enjoy this and if its been posted on here before, I'll delete it.

Here's the link http://www.ou.edu/cas/archsur/news.htm.
Click on "Florence-A Chert Flash Movie" . (I had to type all this in and if I got something wrong in the web address, please let me know! I can't figure out how to do the "paste" thing :icon_scratch:?!)
Enjoy~~~~~sandcreek4

Great video, I have seen it before, Myself I am very interested in Kay County chert (seeing how I live in Kay County) I am still trying to figure out exactly where I can go to find some, I have a general idea of the location but have been looking for some GPS coordinates that are accessible on public land or a road, for the exact area of my county so I can go look around.

Most of the points I find are of this material, it is so beautiful to find, especially when river hunting, when it is wet it has a bright red color, but changes to pink after it dries out in your pocket.

Yep, that's where I first started learning about florence-A chert. We've been looking also for outcroppings of it. Would sure like to know what the quarrys at Hardy looked like. I'm sure it's on private land, but has anyone ever seen pics of them? The OSU-EPC site is where I start searching anything about Oklahoma. I love the old Chronical stories. Very entertaining reading

here are the coordinates for these photos.
36°56'50.68"N
96°44'32.47"W

Here are some photos from the road
< Clicky for larger image, This is looking North East from the road

This is looking South East from the road

< These are some very large pieces of Florence-A chert just laying around on the side of the road. I left these alone.

< Here are 6 pieces that I found basically on the road. They are sitting in my flower bed along with my flakes I have found while searching for points over the last few months. You should see the entire flower bed.... :)

That's GREAT, Sid! My kinda country ;D--thank you so much for the pictures! Looks like you found some nice big chunks of flint and they look really good in your flower bed!
I had to google "Hardy" because I've never heard of that town--my husband said he'd been through it a time or two when he was a kid.
Kind Regards~~sandcreek4
