Not sure if this is a buttom or not. It is thinner than a coin and is a little larger than a nickel in diameter. On the back is the word "PLATED". Any ideas??? Found it on ATV trails where I found 2 large cents. The other thing is the picture might be a cuff link. That has the word "STERLING" stamped in it. Any ideas on that also?

Thanks

It is indeed a flat button from the late 1700s/early 1800s, with the shank missing.

The other item does appear to be a cufflink (or perhaps a shirt stud). I have found similar ones.

PS- My wild guess would be circa 1830s. I am not surprised to see you finding buttons like this on a site that has produced large cents.

thank you for your reply lordmarcovan. Buttons are a little harder to date than coins except for a button collector. Coins are easy cause the date ;D

Thanks again.
