Flattened Copper coin Penny?

This is a flattened coin.
22 mm
2.2 grams, but my scale seems to be off, so that number is a little light.
re: ITED STATES
Nothing else is legible.
No design or anything.
I was thinking, this is the same park where I dug a scam penny. A penny wore down to be the size of a dime to be used in older soda machines.
Same idea? The penny was flattened to be the size of a nickel?

Any thoughts on this?

Yes, agree with DCMatt, 70 years ago I used to flatten penny's on the railroad track. I have no idea what became of them, probably some day someone will find one, and wonder what the heck happened to the penny.

most likely flattened by a steam locomotive because it is still round for the most part. modern locomotives are far heavier and will squish coins thinner and more elongated

Hi, I was going to say probably squished on the train tracks, we used to do it all the time as kids living near the tracks. Had a nickel once too. The only other thing I know is a machine on the boardwalk that you crank a chosen image onto a penny for a novelty keepsake. Hope that helps solve any mystery
