Floral Design "Buckle"?

Found this piece this morning, just in the woods from a field that many years ago was a great producer of Colonial and early Federation coins, however nearby is another site that was occupied possibly as late as the mid 1800s, so not definitive on possible age of this relic.
(IP, same field we hunted when you were here)

Not sure it if is a type of buckle, scarf buckle or what.

Size is approx 2" x 1" a tad more than that.

Looking for ideas on the age and use.

It cleaned up great compared to what it looked like out of the ground, sorry, no before/after shot.

Don

Re: Floral Design "Buckle"?

The rivet heads look very uniform . That might possibly suggest that they were small machine made buttonhead rivets. Then the problem would be to find when buttonhead rivets were first manufactured, and as well, to find when it might have become cheaper to use a rivet than to use solder. :icon_scratch:

Different, not sure what it is. That hunt seems like forever ago, but very glad to have done it!

Was out today with the boys and we had a little success.. A 1600s, 1/2, XV, RRA, a dandy find, and odds and ends. (being vague on purpose) Going at it again tomorrow to try and add a little to the post. The first site on the list to hit gave up a NJ copper so maybe there will be a second.
