When you go down to Stump Pass be sure and stop at Englewood Beach too and do some detecting. We have been going there for vacation for years and it is our favorite beach anywhere. I know that sounds funny but we love the area there, it is like coming home and the beach has something for everyone in our family. I get to detect and find sharks teeth, my wife finds plenty of shells and sand dollars and my son finds enough crabs and other live critters to keep him occupied. In all the years we have been visiting we have a lot of good memories and no problem ever with people not wanting detectors. In fact the photo I use in my posts is of my son showing off my first ever find on a beach and it is at Englewood. I wish I was there right now and hope to be about March or so and for sure we will be there in July. I am getting second home sick just writing about it.
Another good beach to detect in this area is the North Jetty Beach on the north side. I have also detected around the lighthouse on Boca Grande but not without one run in from the state park rangers there. One ranger in particular will stop you and he did me once. I did some research and called the park manger and asked her permission and she was OK with it so I got her name. When Mr Negative ranger tried to stop me the next time I told him that Mrs. Manager said it was OK his response was "well she is the boss so you are golden then, have a good time". Bad part is I did not find much there.
Sorry for the long response but we just love the whole area and we miss it while we are home in the Tennessee hills.
