Folks,

First off Happy New Year to all members.

Last evening after supper the doorbell rang and it was one of my neighbors who told me his brother had lost his custom made gold ring at their parents house after dinner in the snow.

So headed off mid morning and after about 30 minutes without success searching in the snow in the driveway managed to find it along the shrubs by the side of the driveway....the ring weighs in at 20 grams of white gold with a star shaped face encrusted with diamonds...a 5 figure ring and you can see the owner was a happy camper.

Regards + HH

Bill

kcm,

If memory serves me correctly the ring cost $28M to have it custom made.....quite the chunk of white gold and a whack of diamonds for the faceplate.

LD,

It was a bit of a coincidence because his brother had seen me heading off on foot over the years and we finally spoke this summer when I was walking back from a hunt....he managed to track me down through the internet and a neighbor who's a mutual friend.

It's a good feeling to return a find to it's rightful owner.

Wew boy that's a nice ring. That would've suuuuucked to have it lost buried by the driveway. What detector did you use sir? That much gold must've rang up super strong.

28,000 CAD converted to USD is ( and exchange rate varies as always ) 21,360.55 . Or roughly 21 thousand.
Uncle Bill used a M instead of thousand. ( Roman numeral M = 1000.)
Great , now I'm thinking Uncle is wearing a toga.
It can get confusing ( not the toga) .
Some use 1M to mean a million and financial places can use M for a grand ( thousand) and MM for a million.

If gambling I ' ll be sure to say grand or mil ! For a thousand or a million ,respectively.
Well , no , it would be more like a dollar or ten dollars. A.k.a. buck or sawbuck. ( A budget matter not allowing risking a grand or mil.).
A sawbuck being the Roman numeral 10 = X , which resembles the cross pieces used to hold a log to ...saw it. Even to buck it into desired lengths with a bucksaw ( seriously).:tongue3:

WarBaby,

Well you see all these folks walking around with tatoos he has or had a couple of tatoo parlors so there must be some nice profit in that line of work.

And RelevantChair nailed it with the definition of thousand versus million I used to do a lot of financial analysis before I retired so used a lot of shorthand to describe numbers at times.

Bill
