for you coin roll hunters near Canada. how many Canadian coins do you find in rolls? and how do they get in the rolls i thought all coin counters rejected foreign coins?

Im about as far as you can get from canada while staying in the us and I find tons of canadian coinage. The thing about it that surprises me is how little mexican coin I find.

I live 10 miles from Canada.
Many Canadian coins are close enough to get thru coin counters. When I return coin to my dump bank and use the counter in the lobby it will take copper and zinc Canadian pennies always and occasionally I can get a steel penny by it as well. For 5 cent coins, the nickel (1951-1981) and Copper/Nickel (1982-2000) will also be accepted by coin counters. Steel 5 cent coins usually are not. Nickel and Steel dimes usually get rejected. One can dump them by placing no more than 1 or 2 in a roll of American coins and taking to a bank that accepts rolled coins.

If you buy a box of pennies or nickels you will find more recent dates more commonly amongst the American coins but not with Canadian. Because they have switched to plated steel coins for all demonations below $1, coins from the 2000 on are less common than pre 2000.

I live in maine town where canadian tourists outnumber the locals 10 to 1 at certain points of the year. I bought one box of cents about a week or 2 ago and probably found 200 canadian coins... some old keepers like a 1944. but it turns annoying after a while when a 2001 canadian cent rolls out... eh. chuck em back into the wild. I even get canadian quarters in change at the gas station sometimes. terrible haha

Very easy to rim check canadian vs us silver, especially when you see thousands of them over the course of a year.
I've dumped over $12,000 in dimes this year that never saw a counter, they get sent right to the rolling facility, which rolls up everything, including the 1,000's of canadians that I dump. As a matter of fact, I know of only 2 banks in at least 50 in my area that even has a counter, so all coin coming in gets sent back out.

I would be very careful dumping larger denomination canadian coins(dimes, quarters)...

I am about 10 hours from Canada, and every coin machine in my area has a magnet below where you slide down your coins, the magnet takes all magnetic objects(including canadian coinage, pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, and loonies/toonies.

If you think you can get away with dumping canadian coins with the top magnet off(removing the magnet), think again. There is a harder to access magnet below that which is about 10x the size and takes up all the coins.(learned this from a teller i talk to a lot).

No issue for me, I save all foreign coins I get in rolls. Also, The tellers let me keep the rejects off the smaller top magnet whenever I dump there. I do not know about the second magnet, but this is from my understanding on what the teller was trying to explain to me. It gets cleaned every 6 months or so, it takes a machine matinence guy to access it. (Labor= $$)

I live in Southwest Fl and see Canadian money in rolls all the time. I've gotten whole boxes with 1 or 2 in each roll. Hate it when I see a solid rim and think I have a good silver dime and it turns out to be Canadian, I've have seen hundreds of dimes and only 2 have been old enough to be silver.

I keep the older pennies and started a Whitman book, filled up the new dates page, need 7 for 65-44, but only have 6 from 1920-43.

A lot of Canadians vacation and own homes in Fl and they love spending there Ca money down here, get some in change all the time.

If you live near Canada, why not take them into Canada and exchange them for Canadian paper money and conver to USD? They exchange rate is almost 1 to 1.

Or, go to Canada and spend them - buy a big mac for right now and some beef jerky + a Cuban cigar for the drive home.

very true! but just keeping 2 sets of currency in the house gets tedious. mixing them up knowing what to take and what not to.

Costs too much in gas to drive there. I just roll up the thousands I get and ship 'em out.
