Tried it today. It took me about 45 min to do $500, but now they are in the box ready to go. In the past there were times where I have waited 30 min for the coin machine to get emptied. I am wondering if this is the way to go..

Anyone else?

TD in my area only does $100 at once (what you all on the forum told me), so I thought I would give this a try. Not too bad I guess, and maybe over time I can get a little quicker.

I cant imagine why anyone would want to show deposits in this hobby. Especially if you plan on upping your volume.

sorry koala, wrong answer!

I can't see how banks would even want to accept rolls of this type. If you cut it open, search and tape it shut. How do they know you replace what if anything key that you took out. Thats just how I think.

I dont cut the rolls i unwrap the top and pour the coins out or unroll the wrapper and tape it back it up. Makes more sense do it this way because instead of having one or two dumps now you ten or twenty that will accept rolled coins. Never had a problem with it yet!

The problem with that is next time you are dumping and you casually ask if they have any halves, they will say, oh we've got a box full and it will end up being your dumps :laughing9: But really, it depends on the bank, I can't see that many would like this way when compared to a coin sorter and they can simply send the bags away. But I guess if the bank deals with a lot of halves they can feed them your dumps. However, make sure to ask first! At most of the banks I go to, they unwrap the rolls and send them to the sorter anyways, so you could be creating double the work for the tellers.

My pickup bank takes rolled coins, but they also had an issue at another branch with someone bringing in dime rolls that had mostly pennies in them. A teller got fired over it. But they still take rolls, not sure why. I used to dump rolls there when I was just getting rid of coins, but now since I have used them longer I'm using them as my pickup bank.

I've split the rolls, but tape? Nonsense. What's the big deal, the girls at my cu, and some of the other banks, have to dump the rolls loose into a bag to send out anyway.

Deposit? Nope, just halves for bills.

use the coin bags from the merchant window....box of halves should only take like 15 minutes tops.

I guess my theory deep down inside was (and I just thought of this now):

Argghhh I remember when I was dumping $1K at a time. Sometimes I would wait for a half hour to dump and going to the same place sometimes twice a week started to make me feel like a burden even though they all really liked me. THEN I remembered, arghhhh I remember lugging a backpack full of $1K in halves. That thing was SO heavy..

NOW, if I stick to getting a couple boxes/week from different banks, and split the rolls, now I have a nice small box which is manageable to carry, and it should take a lot less time depending on the bank line.

I dunno, I may revert back to lugging halves and dumping, but I am going to give this a shot and see how it goes. Only found 1 '64 out of $500 tonight. They are back in the box though and ready to go to another bank.

I am right in DC also, and there are about 1,000 banks in my area where I can turn them in.

I guess I could always get a rolling suitcase :) My neighbors would probably think I was up to something. I was doing around $8K/week in NM - maybe I was just going up over my head and I was getting burned out.

Hmm... Can I just go to a bank and ask for a coin bag? How does this make things any easier? I was using a green laundry bag with drawstring that I got from BMT - probably the same thing. I still had to put it in a backpack and throw it on my shoulders. 50 lbs shouldn't be too bad, but I am only 5'6 with small legs :) I look silly sometimes with it on my back.

I've actually had a TD branch ask me to do this instead of using their coin machine. Same thing, they have to bag it to send it out, no need to tape. I'm still not a huge fan of the razor slicing, but if I'm in a rush I'll do it. I did 8 boxes like this a couple weeks ago and dumped them at that TD all at once.

What name banks do you drop at that don't care about the cut/taped sides?

Don't say it doesn't matter. My friend has gotten turned away with his razor sliced rolls. Some banks don't want anything to do with them. Chances are you'll get away with it the first time if they don't take them out of the box. It's going back the second time that can be tricky...

I will tell them they are rolled and all there and if they don't want to take my money I will close my acct and take my money elsewhere .. It shouldn't matter.

Well please keep us posted on who accepted them without any gripes etc, I'd be very interested to know how it goes. Are you dropping them off at different companies or are you dropping from the same you order from? (i.e. Ordering from WF and dropping at a different WF location)
