I found a 1954 proof Jefferson nickel today that has pretty strong doubling on the obverse. The variety isn't listed in the cherry pickers guide. Any thoughts on the coin are appreciated. The pictures aren't great but the doubling is strongest on the date but also present on the LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST. There's no doubling on the back, though I did take picture of an abraded die feature (I think???) on the back. Thanks for looking. Off to google now to see what I can find.

Take a look at Brian's variety coins site. He has several listed.

The missing lower curve of the "C" in AMERICA on the Reverse is likely due to that portion of the lettering having grease in it. Abraded Dies can cause Abraded Die Doubling but as far as I know, they do not cause portions of a letter to be missing. However, if the abrasive used on the Die got into the lettering on the Die, then it could have the same effect as grease (i.e. clogged lettering). Excessive repairs on a Die can cause some problems such as beveling on the edges of letters but in most cases, the Mint Employee would not wipe out a portion of a letter. However, it is still possible that it could happen especially since the letters in AMERICA are so thin. If the missing portion of the "C" was not from grease, maybe it falls into Wexler's categories of UFOs. See the second link for UFOs.
