Found a Brass Horse Bridle Rosette with Silver Wash! Looks Old to Me!

I know I've been posting a lot of finds lately, but I just have to post this one! Found it about 6 inches down under a large tree root. It's a brass horse bridle rosette and still has some silver wash on it. My first rosette and it has a cool design on it!

It started to flake as soon as it dried, so I ran it under water and gently scrubbed it with a toothbrush to remove the flaking patina. That's when the silver wash started showing through. Not sure how old this rosette is, but I'll bet it's Civil War era or older.

I only knew what it was because I spend a lot of time here and watch a lot of metal detecting videos on YouTube! They find a lot of them at Civil War sites, but they're usually plain or have "U.S." on them.

I can't be sure but to me the modelling of the horse head looks early 20th C. Might dip into the late 19thC!

Thanks for the info, Crusader and creskol! Thought it was solid brass, but it's magnetic, so it must have a tin back. Still a cool find. Now if I could just find the other one!

I checked out eBay and did a Google image search, but no luck finding this particular rosette.
