Went back to a place I've been over a hundred times. With in minutes I go a good signal. Turned up this CS -I- Button. I was shocked to find it where I had been so many time before. Found a few more relics, and some round lead. Thanks for viewing.

I did toss one find. ;D

Was a bent disk that my buddy called a silver love token, I called it junk and through it away. About two weeks after doing so I open up an issue of Western Eastern and low and behold what do I see, a bent coin exactly like the love token I threw out. I've probably made a few more bad choices but it was just the one silver I threw away. I don't think too many keepers get tossed these days but I'd bet there are some awesome finds in the junk buckets!

Don't think I ever tossed any silver but I'm sure some relics. I think you're right they end up in the junk buckets. Your buddy should have explained the love token a little better or you should have paid more attention :D Nothing like it when you read articles in Western Eastern and you have made same kinds of finds :icon_thumright:

I understood the concept, but being thin and blank I thought naaa.

PS.... The person who told me actually used to toss his buttons. ;D

These stories make me cringe....I have yet to find a nice military button and have been dreaming about the day. I'm hoping for a nice revolutionary or war of 1812 button.....but a CW button would def. hold me over.

If you can dig old targets on a regular basis it's just a matter of time.

Yeah, I just wish it would come soon. I don't know what it is, buttons tickle my fancy...

Nice recovery on the button, it just shows once again there's always something left behind. :icon_thumright:
Reading about things getting tossed. I can still remember the main focus being coins and everything else didn't really matter.
So I tossed all lead including the lead seals away. :icon_scratch:

I was kind of forced into the things. I started detecting to find coins, but the good buttons kept coming far more than decent coins, so it was easy to start liking them.

Likewise, this is still my 1st year detecting and I've found close to 60 flat buttons, but not one of them is what I'm after. I do have what appears to be a 1820's riflemans button. But it hasn't been properly ID'd....I'm just assuming that it is.

Very interesting comments. I've enjoyed reading them. Thanks Guys...

You gotta keep finding spots that give up buttons. My best years I was digging about a 1,000 total which included a very good military count. Last year I did find quite a few buttons, at some really decent sites, but was just damn unlucky for marked ones. I think that will turn around this year.

Well, I've located several old sites for this year..I'm hoping these places will cough up at least one nice military button. I really love old copper and silver, but as I'm digging I hold my breath and mixed thoughts of USA buttons and GW buttons, cannons, eagles, horns, and it usually ends up just being a plain treble gilt. I may have an "accident" when and if I pull a button like the one posted on this thread.

I've grown a bit wiser since the account I mentioned. I've found a couple of NY Coat Buttons over the last couple years....and yes I DID keep them this time!

Congradulations on everyone's button finds. Thanks for the comments....HH...

Congrats Old River ,That CSA button is one fine recovery ,you lucky dude!! Keep finding more ! 8) CMD
