Nice find...Looks like the one I had when I was a kid.
 

no, no markings. looked all over it. just Texas, and made in USA.
 

Some sad little buckaroo couldn't play cowboys and indians anymore. :'( I agree... looks 50's... maybe up to mid 60's
 

6"? wow, thats good condition for being that deep, looks like these things hold up pretty good. Whenever I find something in the woods its usually not that deep, 3" tops.
 

I've found 2 this year. I believe they date from the 50's. Mine had the cows head on the side as well as a star.
 

Wow. I ALSO found the same gun, same condition, about 2 inches down. Don't have a pic handy though. I'll try to post one when I get done evacuating. I'm in Houston for business.

As UPN alluded to, it looks a lot like an earlier version of a Hubley Texan. Fun find!

The 6 inches was probably added topsoil since it was grass.

Found one very similar, just says "Tex" definately a Hubley
