I did a quick morning hunt Thursday after I got off work and went out and crawled around on one of my Ft Ancient sites. Didn't find any Points, but I found one of the best Bone Beads I have ever found. This thing is polished like glass and is in excellent shape. I also found a really nice Tooth with a groove around it. No in situs since these were both found before the sun came up with my headlamp.

That is a SWEET lookin bead REAP!!!! Ft. ancient at it's BEST!! CONGRATS... HH

Wow.. best I think I've seen.
It's kinda cool how the headlamp only allows a smaller field of view.
I think it actually helps to focus on the area your hunting. With the Polish still on that bead it probably reflected some light back.
Nice find.

You are lucky to get bone Grim. I wonder why it does not survive well here once close to the surface. Rain maybe. Nice bone bead. I know they can be common in some areas out west but a real special find in your area. You think what 500 yrs old maybe? Nice bead sir. I am assuming the Petzl head lamp?

They are actually pretty common here on our Ft Ancient sites. I probably underestimated the amount I have as it's more then likely over 300 good ones and probably that many broken pieces and I have buddies who have just as many. The site this came from is dated from 950 to 1650 AD so it could be anywhere from over a 1000 years old to just a few hundred. Actually the light I use is a cheap $15 one from WalMart. It works pretty good but I plan on getting a better one.

Nice bead steve. I am putting that on my wish list.

Did you bring enough for the whole class? :-)

Cool Finds! It's amazing that it is still in such good condition.

that is a nice looking bone artifact, but for me i just do not get into bones,do you think since they were so resourcefull and used them, that the white man thought they were savages.i just really want to know why i do not prefer them over other artifacts to show thier strengths.not bashing your find at all but to me there is something about using bone that just dosent sit right with me.could it be inherited?

So.. is eating the flesh and wearing the skin better?
You should see what happens to the suppliers of those buffolo wings we enjoy on football night.

yes,i like how leather protects my skin, and the taste of the flesh that cures my hunger.just do not know why i feel the bones should be returned to the earth.or why im even talking about this.

I have to say that's a post that will catch your eye when previewing threads. Love. It. Can you "banner" a post?

If I had to say one negative thing about those two pieces, I would be at a loss of words. Nice finds. I have always been hesitant to hunt with my hat lamp. I feel like I'm stomping all over stuff. Apparently you have mastered the ol mighty hat lamp.

I have tried it in creeks and have stirred up many snakes that swam between my legs. In the fields here you would be a target but am sure Steves field owners know his wild and crazy hunting habits. haha

You can switch some to red light.. that only travels a short distance from the source..... "Black Ops".. LOL.
If you need to be covert.
