found a louvered duntnowhtitis

I went to my sister's old farmhouse today. Found lots of bullet casings and other trash, but this piece has me baffled! It's either brass or copper and may have part of it broken off at the squarish end. Any ideas what this may be, or should I post it in the "What is it?" forum? Thanks!

I was thinking a vent but know holes for screws maybe part of a heel plate for a boot. just my 1 cent cause I cant afford 2

That's what I was thinking. OP, check for any carbon buildup in the louvered sections.

Couldn't find any, but maybe they used motor honey to reduce buildup.
