Found a marker tree

The markings should be at the same height as when they were craved. Every see a tree that has barbwire nailed to it. In never gets higher as the tree grows. Thanks, marion
 
Trees do not grow the way most on here seem to think. Something carved into a tree does not get higher as the tree grows.
 
Plants achieve little growth through cell division - most growth comes from cell elongation. What does this mean? What was near the ground 100 years ago can be much higher depending on the type of tree. Happy hunting.
 
I sure wish you could get a clearer photograph and from a closer distance. More than likely they climbed from their horse upon those limbs and made the carving. I sure wish it was a clearer picture, I may be able to help you.
