I am a new member that just started prospecting a few months ago. Found a rock the other day and was wondering what it was. Sorry I couldn't find a tape measure but it is about 9 inches long, 5 inches to the wide to 2 inches wide and weighs 8 pounds. Some of the quarts veins seams to be loaded with orange and gold I hope. I can scratch it. Looked at some raw gold pics and it looks like it but not positive. If it is gold how do I get it out of the rock? Please help me. how can I test to see if it is gold? Is there any other metal that is soft and looks gold? Is there any rock minors on this site? Can someone help?

It is hard to tell anything from the photos, but I found this site Here is a link with some rocks with gold in them:

Thanks to responding. Sorry I cant get better pics. I have looked and looked at pics. If I look at it with my eye It realy don't look gold but if I magnify it to 30 or 60 power it looks like a lot of little gold pieces all mashed together. Scratched a piece of it looking through the magnifier. I tested it with nitric acid. I bought the kit online and it don't have a reaction till I lay 22kt drop on it, but I don't know if it works on raw gold. I cant find any jeweler around here that tests gold on a rock. I don't know what else to do. Its driving me crazy.. lol

The location you found it can tell a lot about the geology of were it came, unless it's been moved from the original source. Does't recollect any metals ore I've seen before. It has a color and look of much of the Permian rock formations of the Colorado plateau, but that's not saying a lot about what you have. If you do have native gold in that rock the best way to get it out is crush and grind it as fine as possible and wash out all the lighter material like you would if you were panning gold.
