002.webp003.webp007.webpGot a few more hours in this afternoon.Found a union infantry button that looks like it met the plow a couple times in its time , a 3 ringer that was widdled in half.a mangled spoon, a rivet,A wagon wheel hub,and another steel object that looks like some kind of spool of some kind? The other brass thing reminds me of a latch of some kind, but I don't think it is?I have seen something like it before but I don't know.thanks for looking.HH

Nothing wrong with that DI. I love anything that's been personalized by human hands in some way

Really neat finds. Got to wonder what was going on when that bullet was cut in half. Hard to believe someone being that bored in the civil war days. Thanks for sharing.

Really cool 3 ringer!, the wagon wheel hub is unique also

The brass piece looks kind of like a lock plate cover. It swung over the keyhole on a lock to keep it covered. I've whittled a few sticks in my day but never a bullet. That's a really cool piece.

When I saw the bullet I got a picture in my head of a bored soldier in a winter camp trying to make the time pass quicker. That is a really unique find.

Nice finds! I wonder if maybe they needed some lead for something like a fishing sinker or some other purpose. It seems odd that troops would be allowed to whittle on something that the lives of the men depended on so much. Evolution may have given you your ID for the brass piece. Congrats on a good hunt!

I would imagine they where just sitting around bored in camp.I was reading something awhile back that said sometimes they would pull lice out of their hair and race them just for something to do.

Thanks. You know I was thinking a lock plate or fly at first, but I cleaned it up and it looks like something else, unless it is just something different then I am use to seeing, what do you think?006.webp008.webp

Thanks,I would imagine pretty bad times when all the enjoyment someone can get is from widdling a bullet.:)

Man your doing pretty good out there. Like the bullet

Thanks OldDude!I have noticed that it seems like more northern carved bullets are found then confederate,They where well supplied unlike the Confederate states,so I think its just the case they could spare more.Pretty much Just like every thing else civil war related, people tend to find more U.S. relics then C.S. because they had more to lose. Not sure if it was against military policy to do such things are not,but could just be one of those cases, what they don't know wont hurtum,Hell. maybe the guy pitched it when is CO was coming:)?

Hey Richey, thanks man.Yeah there is still some stuff around that place.I have been putting in some work a few hours at a time,Haven't found nothing outstanding since the confederate button, but I haven't came out empty handed yet.Man there is "allot' of iron in them fields, the old fisher does a pretty good job,but I was just thinking today I need something with a little better target seperation.I heard the other day about that buckle you found over there.

I know that place is loaded with iron, I'd like to get the at pro over there but trying to wait til after Xmas because I got my boy an at pro also and he'd kill me if I didn't save him a spot. Its gotta be something else hidden in all that trash. I've got an old fisher 1266 i never use, thing drives me nuts in all the trash

,I don't think you have to worry to much about saving him a spot over there,it is a pretty big place.I hunt with my uncle sometimes "when he wants to go"He saw me over there and asked me about it,I told him that I didn't ask if anyone could come with me. I could tell you had interest in the place and didn't want to impose to much. But there is stuff to be found over there.Man you got that new machine too:) who knows what you might pull out of there. The older fishers aren't bad machines, but you are right ,they have allot of chatter. What are you gonna do with the 1266?If you want to sell it let me know.See you guys later.

Man you won't be imposing on me if you want your uncle to go I'd rather see somebody find it than have it rot in the ground. I know how you feel not getting permission for extra people but just ask Russell you know he'll be OK with it. I know as soon as deer season is over with we should hit the woods behind that field. Might hold on to that machine for a back up. Good luck

I appriceate your outlook,I just don't want to seem like "that guy"..Maybe i'll take him some time later on.I think it's to early,I don't want to press a good thing.I have been there a few times now and every time i go I learn something new about the place.I am getting really excited about it.I know your boy is ready to go.I seen you guys walking side by side awhile back at the end of the road up here and he was just a swinging.I look forward to getting together with you guys down there.
