AMEN BROTHER... :notworthy:

If you purchase the right pinpointer and the target is shallow, you can pinpoint the target before you even start to dig... ;D
I'd recommend the Garrett Pro-Pointer...
CONGRATULATIONS on the first coin. :hello2:
Now, get back out there and find some more and work on the recovery skills...

you can get a little cheap pinpointer a harbor freight for around $17 bucks ( i did find a 20 % off coupon in the back of my readers digest ) it does help but the power button do wear out on them but it has help me a bunch till i get a better one . also don't worry i just found my first wheaties, keep digging

Welcome to Tnet and to the addiction of metal detecting. If you get on youtube you can find a lot of videos for digging plugs, recovering targets, pin pointing...the list goes on. Good luck,

HH Charlie

I cannot believe everyone is actually cheering you on!!!!
ARE YOU NOT AWARE OF THE DANGER YOU ARE IN???
I guess I must be the first to tell you to "Put the Detector down and walk away"
This is not just a simple hobby....This will suck you in and infect you for life!!!
If I was you, I would give it up before you dig something old! This is the only warning I am going to
give you. Don't say you were never warned!!! I will have no sympathy for you what-so-ever when you
realize you are thinking about it all of the time. Your on thin ice my friend!! Good Luck!! Johnny 8)

What Johnny Ringo said. Plus, soon you will be taking trips to Georgia and wanting to go digging in England.

Metal detector, lots of fun. Pinpointer--priceless!

Welcome to the lawnmower coin club. Two firsts with one hit. Well done.

Welcome!
Hit the dirt hard in your first few months.

To late...im having a hard time working...i cant fall asleep. then i was having dreams about it last night....Dont think my wife is happy with my hobby, so i know it has to be fun. (Not getting that honey do list done.) Yea i think i fell tough the ice and and going down and enjoying every second.

Welcome!

Do yourself a favor and get a Garrett Propointer. I wasted money on 4 "cheapie" units [including the Harbor Freight] before I finally broke down and bought the Garrett. If you think MDing is fun now, get the Propointer and rock your world. :headbang:

agreed: garrett pinpointer is the way to go. but i havent used any other. so honestly i dont have a frame of reference.
i have noticed though, on my garrett p.pointer i need to turn it on and off throughout the course of ddigging a target to "reset" its sensitivity.
it takes a little practice. sometimes i find a weak signal and ill dig and inch or two and ill still have a weak signal, ill dig another inch or two..repeat a few more times....same thing. before i know it my hole is 12 inches deep.
if i reset it i'll "lose" that phantom signal....or is it not a phantom signal at all?
obviously, even pinpointers take a little bit of skill. :tongue3:

Welcome and good luck with lots of cool finds!

Congrats on your first coin. If I may suggest getting a Garett Pro pointer. (They rock).

Cool!! Get excited on my first coin too! Many more to you! HH

Do you have a pinpointer? You'll find the pennies faster!

I remember my first coin, it was a 1972 penny. Gotta start somewhere.

Here's a toast to many more coins, may they get older and more precious! :coffee2:

DHD , I'm not sure what part of Virginia you are in and what type of soil you're working in, but try this... Next time you start to recover a target, remove a little dirt and stick the Pro-Pointer tip into the removed dirt and turn it on. This "ground balances" the Pro-Pointer to the mineralization of the dirt, should help. If you're still having trouble, try doing the same thing by sticking it into the loose dirt in the hole and turn it on. It will affect sensitivity a little if you are actually near the target. Hope this helps.
