Found G-Grandmother's Pocketwatch 105 Years Later

Hi Everyone,

Great digs today. Dug up a pocketwatch (#3 for the year).
It was REALLY crusty.
Using my "go to formula" for removing severe crud and by taking it slooow,
I discovered it was engraved - Jennie Roll 1906 - this pocketwatch belonged to my Great Grandmother.

Happy Hunting!

My G-G-G Grandfather headed to California during the gold rush days. He had good luck while there and returned home to Indiana with enough money to build a nice brick homestead. This homestead has been in my family since the day it was built. Any finds there are "family finds".

Cool find, what would be really neat was if she had a diary, or any written family history, and mentioned losing the watch.
Don't lose it again.

I think it is safe to say that "a lot" of us are in this hobby because of the history attached or invovled in what we can find in the ground beneath our feet.

To find a verified piece of your own FAMILY history is just remarkable. That watch was in the ground, I assume "lost" by her. Can you imaging how Great GrandMa Roll felt the day she went into the house and discovered her pocket watch was missing? The search she and family/friends probably did around the homestead to recover a nice time piece like that that was personally engraved??

Wow, rest assured Great GrandMa Roll is smiling today.... Bravo!

I'd think about placing under the grass at her headstone, if you know where that is. Maybe not for sentimental reasons, just a thought.
