Nice find ...may I ask how you found it I.e. with a detector and if so which brand that can go 3 foot deep?

As for opinions, looks like it's a junk ring to me but a ring is a ring. Breath on that stone. If it fogs, at least you'll know the stone is fake.

With what appears to be "pitting" around the ring, it could just be "gold plate" , are there any markings inside the ring? 3' of black sand? Just digging around with a shovel or detecting.

By the pics I'm going to guess...Not solid. When I blew the pics up, it was too blurry to really tell. It does look like some green and Brassing on the pic where you can see the inner side.
Either way...Cool find, in black sand at that depth!!! I'd be happy with it no matter what it's content is!!!

By black sand, do you mean black from organic decay? I too wonder what kind of detector you'd have to have to punch through three feet of mineralized black sand.

Maybe he meant a 3 foot wide circle.
If the find was in some swampy ground, there could be decayed organic material which stains regular sand very black, but other than that, I'm stumped. (Unless it a lava-beach sand? But, I've never detected in that stuff, so can't comment.)
