Question for any Train experts.
I found the object below in a stream by some B&O rail road tracks. I read up that it is a Train Break Shoe( or part of it). It has the mark S inside of diamond shape.
Would anybody be able to date this type of Brake Shoe?

The spike in the image is just for size comparison. Spike also found with the Brake Shoe.

Thank you in advance.

I found a couple similar that say it's made by Pathe, and dates late 1800's early 1900's... but they are ebay listings so I can't say that's definitely accurate

I just posted a brake shoe from a 1910 logging camp image.jpgnice find!

That's wild. Imagine a brake shoe flying off a moving train while you're trying to enjoy a picnic by a stream?
What are the odds?
Cool finds.

Last shameless Bump for any Train Guys.
Hope everybody enjoys there day today.

Very cool find.

I met a detectorist years ago that exclusively hunted railroad grades. He found lots of tools and train parts. I haven't the patience to walk grades in my area, but it sounds like fun.

The experts at the B & O Museum in Baltimore , Md have all the answers .
THE place for restorations of old steam trains. ! Google the site & send an email .

I sure might do that. I live in Baltimore County so they are just around the bend.
