found this in a streambed running through a ghost town in Vermont. The town was deserted about 160 years ago. Any ideas?

used for what? Do you not see the cut marks in it. Some run the length of it and go all the way through to the other side. Others run the width of it and go quite deep into it.

Someone put a lot of effort into working online and then not finishing it. I wonder what caused them to discard it. Could it be a unforeseen storm? Or maybe a child picked it up and threw it in the creek or was it just not coming out like he wanted
