I found my 1st ever seat quarter last night! It was pretty rough without a date until I put it on the stove with baking soda, salt, water and dish soap all in a foil pan. I boiled the water then rubbed it down. I followed up with a toothpaste bath and she cleaned up nicely. I know I made a lot of people cringe, but it looks better now than with all the limestone stains it had.

congrats on the 1st seated Qtr!!!! MR TUFF

It's my belief that the "never clean coins" crowd are collectors who buy their coins from dealers and have never pulled one from the ground after 100+ years that has so much "patina" you can't tell if it's a large cent or a half dollar. Nice job cleaning that up and congrats on your first seated.

Congrats on your first seated quarter.
My first sea quarter came up for me this year as well....and then a second one a week later, so I've got my fingers crosse for you bud!

Great coin, and nice clean up! Don't worry about what others think. You can't please everyone, so you've got to please yourself.

I think cleaning the coin was a righteous move. Congrats!!

Hard to argue with the feeling that the end result is much more desirable than the original state. Congrats to you and great job on the cleaning :headbang:
