Found a nice little buckle this morning. I think it is brass. It was about 11 inches deep and rang up as a 61 to 65 on my dfx. I have found many old buttons and coins in this field but this is my first buckle. Don't really know anything about it but being that deep im figuring 1800's? Sorry about the pictures, had to use a scanner, still learning how to post.

You found a Colonial shoe buckle chape. :headbang: I would estimate it being mid-1700s. That is a great find and an even better site indicator.

Kirk :hello:

That is an oldie for sure. George Washington was a young man when that was made! That sounds like a field worth buying a big coil for.

i agree with Kirk, mid 1700s. very nice chape.

Thanks, I was thrilled when I saw this come out. It is small! about 1" by 1". Cool!

:read2:

Could be a Chape from a number of type buckles, not just a shoe buckle. Still a nice find

Congrats on your first buckle man! :notworthy:
May it be the first of many! :icon_thumright:
