Found this brass snap hook on The Oregon Trail used to pull wagons anyone know what this is called? brass not gold dam

I found this on Mount Hood on the Oregon Trail about a mile hike in or so was waving my detector
this thing was easy to pull out of the ground
it is used to pull a hourse with a strap through it looks like it broke off
what is this puppy called ?
any idea if it is worth anything it is brass not gold

I have one something like that one i use to chain my dog up when I let him out

So handy that it still is being made today!
Why improve on something that works great!

In the 50's I seen alot of hooks similar to that . They were made of steel and there was a metal strip from that part that looks like a rivet head out to the hook part to keep it from coming off of what it was hooked to. Though I don't know what to name is.

Its possibly a confederate sword hanger.

Looks like a sword hanger to me also. I have dug several at camps and skirmish sites.

ive been cleaning it alot lately it looks alot brassier

it is more likely to wire up a harness
