Found this in a Civil War site in central Miss that has produced many relics.

It is brass and there appears to be writing on the circular disc on top. Both that piece and the other piece on top slide..the end pieces w/ the holes in them are both bent and appear to have been straight when in their normal position..Thanks for looking..

i have seen one of these posted before in the last couple years but can not remember for the life of me what it was. some one should be along soon though i think that will ID it.

I'm thinking it's a capper for an old percussion lock gun. I'm not 100% but it does look like one I've seen a long time ago. I couldn't find one just like it. but here's a new version.....

I think I have seen this before on a tool.. But I can not for the life of me recall the name of it. Do you think there could have been a spring on this @ one point?

It does look like some type of seal. I can see some lettering/symbols on the disk. Eagledigs, how about making us a Play-Doh impression.
