Looks like it had a shank or pin for a collar stud. Could’ve been a button?

I think you've got an Army Enlisted Collar Pin - Circa WW1. "H" = "Headquarters".

Here you go, enlisted collar brass/disk/disc as said. Always thought it was strictly H for Headquarters, which later changed to HQ. But this says it was also used for/by Military Police (MP's), don't know if true.....?

Me neither, haven't been able to confirm that as of yet. Could just be an internet oops. For now we'll just stick with "H" for HeadQuarters.
