ok, I have found a few of them around here where I am in AZ, but I never thought of taking a few hours to get one out.... I envy the amount of work it took you to get it out, cuz I do know how they can be stuck in a rock!

Nice find. I got an extention for a bit like that from a mine that was last active in 1930's.

Cool find! That is a star bit and was used to bore a hole to put explosives in.They are still used today.

Neat relic to find, hope you find some gold to display beside the drill, LOL! HH, Mike

treasure tails , HI
No i didn't find any gold , i rubbed the ol' md all over the walls ,floor and ceiling and the ol' beeper didn't make a sound, till i hit the drill (thought i hit the MOTHER LOAD).
The tunnel is about 20' deep and goes straight back , about 5' tall.
The BLM has no current claims on file in this area( 260+ acres). The lady said the last paper work they have for this location was 1906.
i found it by accident as there were no tailing piles around it.... everything must have been Packed out or hidden. There is a quartz vein in the back about a foot wide , i figure that they were following that and ran out of gold...
